Science fiction Dark Souls? Yes please.

The Surge is an upcoming science fiction action RPG being developed by Deck13, the creators of Lords of the Fallen. Lords of the Fallen is very similar looking to the popular Dark Souls series, but it never did really compare gameplay wise, and therefore never really gained a sizeable following. Overshadowed by the Dark Souls series, Deck13 decided to take their design in a slightly different direction theme wise, but still keep some of the gameplay mechanics from Lords of the Fallen.

The Surge still looks very similar to Dark Souls as far as the combat mechanics go, and just the overall feel of the game, though it sets itself apart due to its theme. While Lords of the Fallen was very similar to Dark Souls even in its art design, The Surge is set in a science fiction world. While The Surge still resembles the Dark Souls formula, so did Nioh, and it turned out to be an amazing title that set itself apart from Dark Souls and gained fantastic reviews from players and critics alike.

The community has deemed The Surge as basically a science fiction Dark Souls, but for some people, that's definitely enough to at least spark their interest, including me. The Surge is filled with highly advanced robots, and your character is fitted with an exo-suit if you will. Killing robots will drop scraps and parts. Certain enemies can drop technology and machinery that you can then use to improve your armor, and make weapons. While the combat may be slightly similar to Dark Souls, The Surge is an entirely different beast altogether.

The Surge will be officially releasing for PS4, Xbox One and PC on May 16th.
