The First Serious Sam 4 Teaser Trailer is Released

This actually scares me a bit.

The last time we saw a mainstream Serious Sam in action was way back in… 2011 with Serious Sam 3, which is a depressing realization when I was sure it was released closer to 2015. Regardless, it’s been seven goddamn years despite the fact that the game was a critical and commercial success, and fans have been eagerly waiting for the series return, especially since Duke Nukem turned out to be a huge disappointment… even though it came out the same year?! Oh, Jesus.

…Anyway. We almost got Serious Sam 4 sooner, but by some accident, it transformed into the philosophy puzzler The Talos Principle, which is about as opposite of Serious Sam as you can get in terms of tone and gameplay. But the developer, Croteam, is back on track and just released this new teaser trailer for the upcoming shoot em’ up.

See that? Looks like we’re not far from getting a closer look when E3 comes around. But in the meantime, have an extra little blurb:

Serious Sam 4: Planet Badass reignites the legendary series and elevates the iconic full-throttle action, massive hordes of enemies, and explosive array of weapons to the next level. Please join Croteam and Devolver Digital at E3 2018 for the full game reveal and wishlist now on Steam for the latest news and update on Serious Sam 4: Planet Badass.

Two things have struck me: the first is that the trailer seems to suggest an open world, since we see the titular character on a vehicle driving through what appears to be a fairly expansive green world. The second is the logo, which shows a lot of people lined up as well as the gun-wielding hero. Throw that together with the name, and I’m forced to come to one of two conclusions: this is either a multiplayer game, or… a BATTLE ROYALE GAME.

Haha, I want to die. But we’ll find out if I should strap bombs to my hands and run towards the nearest wall at this year’s E3.
