Even duds have a limited fuse length, we suppose. After only about a year in operation, Konami has announced the termination of the Super Bomberman R Online game servers.

Announced on the official website, developer/publisher Konami announced that they would be shutting the game down, effective December 1, 2022.

Thank you for playing SUPER BOMBERMAN R ONLINE.

This service has continued to operate with the support of many users since its launch in May 2021, but due to various circumstances, we have decided to terminate the service on all platforms on December 1, 2022 at 01:00:00 (UTC).

The sale of Bomber Coins and Premium Packs will end at 01:00:00 UTC on June 1, 2022.
We ask that all unused Bomber Coins be used before the end of the service.
We hope that you will enjoy the game until the end of the service.

The "Bomberman" series is moving forward with new projects.
We hope to be able to inform you of this project soon.
Thank you for your continued support of the "Bomberman" series.

This isnt to be confused with Super Bomberman R, however. That was a mainline Bomberman game released in 2017, featuring a surprising large cast of guest characters. Super Bomberman R Online is a separate spin-off of that game. SBMR Online was a free-to-play battle royale style game that was released last year. Like with most free battle royale games, it relied on a season-based microtransaction system for monetization. The game received mixed reviews on release, mostly for which features were limited to paying players and unreliable online servers.

As much as we enjoy a good Bomberman game, its hard to be upset about this. To be perfectly honest, we didnt even know it existed. Even if we did, we wouldnt have played it. Not every single franchise needs to become a free to play battle royale game. Still, for those who ARE negatively affected by this announcement, our sympathies go out to you.
