Rainbow Six Siege to Get New Co-Op Mode

Finally, some good news.

Ubisoft got into a bit of a kerfuffle when it tried to raise the price of Rainbow Six Siege, a three-year-old game. While no one is arguing with the success of the game—and how nice it is that Ubisoft is still supporting it—it was a hard sell to jack up the price just because Operation Chimera, the next big update for the game, is just around the corner.

That said, Ubisoft is doing a dang good job making it look good, and has just released a trailer announcing a new, albeit temporary co-op mode that will be featured in the game starting March 6th: Outbreak.

In Outbreak, you play as Lion, and Finka, Smoke, Ying, Buck, Kapkan, Ash, Doc, Tachanka, Glaz, and Recruit and work together to fight “horrific creatures” in three large, open, yet slightly linear maps. These creatures (which are probably zombies) will come in five flavors, with their own unique abilities, and your job will be to destroy them before they spread.

You can play the mode either on normal difficulty, or on “Pandemic” mode, which has stronger monsters and friendly fire, which will make it all the more difficult to survive an onslaught of creatures who are more durable than your average terrorist. That said, they were quick to also add that the trademark destructive elements of the game would remain, so you can still blow up a wall to catch a monster off-guard, although by the sounds of it you might just be helping them kill you if you decide to do that.

Sounds like it could be a good time. It’ll run for about a month, but if you want more details, you’ll have to wait until the end of the Six Invitational Finals, which will end on February 19th. So it’s not that far off.
