Overwatch Not Getting Valentine or Easter Events

Which is a real shame.

Hello to all my Overwatch players out there! Did you enjoy the Chinese New Year event? I really hope so. Because that may be the last big event we get for a while. According to responses on the official Overwatch Twitter, there are absolutely no plans for Valentine or Easter events. That may come as a bit of a surprise. So far, Overwatch has jumped at literally any reason to have a new seasonal event. Hell, their first event was to celebrate the Summer Olympic Games. If they did that, then we had every right to expect pretty much any holiday is fair game.

True, maybe the decision to avoid Valentine's Day isn't shocking. The Chinese New Year event lasted until literally Valentine's Day. There really wasn't any room for the holiday in the schedule. But the decision to leave out Easter is a bit confusing. Blizzard has hosted an Easter event for World of Warcraft for as long as we can remember, so we know it isn't because they don't like Easter. The decision is also a bit disheartening considering D.Va has a bunny painted on anything she owns. I know I'm not the only one who was hoping for a crazy rabbit mech for D.Va this year. But alas, it's not meant to be.

The decision behind this change is unclear. On one hand, Blizzard may have other holidays in mind. We don't exactly have an Irish hero, but a St. Patrick's Day event isn't off the table. There's also the popular idea that Blizzard will host a Unity Day event on March 21. That's the anniversary of the famous announcement video "Recall." That trailer showed off an in-game holiday called Unity Day. The video was released on March 21, so players figure that day must be Unity Day. It doesn't hurt matters that March 21 this year falls on a Tuesday, Overwatch Update Day.

The other possibility is that Blizzard ran out of resources to plan these events. Given that we've had the Summer Games, Halloween, Christmas, and Chinese New Year, Blizzard may just be out of skins, changed maps, and game modes. No one can fault them for needing a moment to catch their breath. The real reason is a mystery right now. Blizzard is keeping their cards fairly close to their chest. We don't know exactly what we're getting moving forward. All we do know is that we're not getting Valentine or Easter events.
