Miitomo, the social network mobile game by Nintendo, didn't quite have the take-off one would have hoped for. The lack of interest would lead to its upcoming closing. While many of the features weren't what people were interested in, one thing everyone loved was the Mii creator. This is why the game company has announced a web-based Mii creator releasing later this month.

The few people still playing Miitomo received an in-game news alert, detailing their plans.

With the end of Miitomo service, it will no longer be possible to create or edit Mii characters using Miitomo, but we are planning to add a feature in late May 2018 which will enable you to create and edit Mii characters for your Nintendo account via your web browser of choice.

In order to add this feature, we will be performing system migration maintenance from the end of Miitomo service until late May 2018. During this period, you will not be able to change your Mii character set to your Nintendo Account (including clothes and accessories). Additionally, changes made to the Mii characters for [your] Nintendo Network ID will not be applied to your Nintendo Account Mii character.

Nintendo would later explain that you can either create an entirely new Mii or import the Mii you have registered on your Miitomo account (which is linked to your Nintendo ID). The clothing and items you obtained in the app do not transfer over, however.

While it's surprising it took this long for an official Mii creator to be available online, we're happy that it's happening. With Miitomo shutting down and Miiverse having closed, the brand image of the Mii has severely declined since the Wii U days. It's good to see it isn't dead just yet.

Miitomo is shutting down at 12 a.m. PT on May 9. The online Mii maker will go live at the latter half of this month.
