Activision-Blizzard, having only just earned the love of its fans back after the Blitzchung controversy with a stellar Blizzcon, only to lose it again with the release of Warcraft 3: Reforged edition, is probably thinking they’re in need of a win right about now. With Overwatch 2 and Diablo 4 still a ways away, however, they could probably use something sooner to get a rise out of their loyal fanboys and girls, who are as mighty as a summer storm yet quiet down just as suddenly when you flash them something pretty and distracting.

Well, what could be prettier and more distracting than cartoons? Which is why I’m happy to reveal – through a fairly unorthodox source – that Activision-Blizzard is currently working on Overwatch and Diablo cartoons, most likely for Netflix.

We know this thanks to the recently updated LinkedIn profile for one Nick van Dyk, co-president of Activision Blizzard Studios, who previously worked on a Skylanders series that was released on Netflix not too long ago.

As for how the shows would look, it’s not really hard to imagine: Netflix’s Castlevania anime, for its many, many, many flaws, is doing fairly well and Diablo could very easily fit into that mold. Overwatch, on the other hand, is a more versatile IP, and I could honestly see anything from a serious action-drama to a comedy sketch series akin to what Valve puts out for Team Fortress 2 on occasion. All we really know is that while Diablo will be done in “anime style”, Overwatch will be “animated”.

Literally nothing else has been revealed about either projects outside his vague descriptions on Linkedin, but since neither of these shows were shown off at last year’s Blizzcon, we can safely assume they’re still at least a year away, if not more. So strap in for a long wait.
