A news release from Sega emphasized the efforts put towards the localization process.

We've gone through the Yakuza Kiwami 2 script with a fine-toothed comb; every effort has been made to ensure that it's the most faithful representation of the original Japanese.

Following the efforts of Yakuza Kiwami, the remake of the first Yakuza game, Yakuza Kiwami 2 follows series' protagonist Kazuma Kiryu. He is asked for help by his former Yakuza group, the Tojo Clan, to help mend the relationship with a family of power. Through his efforts, he discovers a Korean mafia group associated with the family and becomes the rival of the family's "Kansai Dragon", Ryuji Goda.
