The Xbox system menu has seen quite a few transformations over the years, from on screen avatars to filing cabinet folder systems. But a recent update for the Xbox Series X/S pays homage to the original.

Available now, Series X/S owners can select a new dynamic background option. Named The Original it recreates the matrix-like black and green grid seen in the original Xbox console. And yes, it includes the blobby green thing in the middle.

The new background option was showcased by The Verges Tom Warren on Twitter earlier this week. First claiming to be for Xbox Insiders, they quickly followed it up to reveal that its available for all console owners.

Xbox insiders can now access the original Xbox dashboard animation as a dynamic background called "The Original"
. . .
scrap that, it's available for everyone on Xbox Series X / S

To be picky, the dynamic background isnt actually based on the original Xbox background, but on the loading screen. When you started the console up, youd be presented with an animated loading screen showing the blob taking form. Since you had to see this every time, it became a very nostalgic scene for classic gamers.

We love it all the same, and have now made it our own background. It gives us that retro, nostalgic vibe we love.

If you want to activate the background for yourself, navigate to the settings menu on your Series X/S, select the customization option, and select the Dynamic Background option. The Original will be at the very end of the list.
