For those waiting for the revitalized iteration of ToeJam and Earl, ToeJam & Earl: Back in the Groove, will have to wait just a little bit longer. The Kickstarter-funded action game has been pushed back until 2018. Updated via the Kickstarter page, developer Humanature Studios states that, while they tried to release the game in 2017 as promised, they are unable to do so.

Humanature Studios founder Greg Johnson stated the following:

Game development is an inexact science and it's our priority to deliver the best, most solid game we can. To get the game across the finish line we need to push into 2018, but rest assured we are working our butts off and you guys are going to get an awesome game.

Greg Johnson claimed that ToeJam & Earl: Back in the Groove would be "the ultimate ToeJam & Earl sequel" when they launched the Kickstarter campaign in 2015. The game is expected to include concepts from the original 1991 Sega Genesis game, with modern ideas integrated within. With a goal of $400,000, the Kickstarter campaign raised $508,637 total. In 2016, Adult Swim Games came in to offer to publish the title.

ToeJam & Earl: Back in the Groove is coming to Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Windows, Mac, and Linux at some point in 2018.
