Hop on the deck and flop like a fish. Spongebob is back in action with SpongeBob SquarePants: Battle for Bikini Bottom - Rehydrated, a modernization of the classic Nickelodeon video game.

Unfortunately, this well-animated teaser is just about all we know about the game at this time. It also has a few images on the official Steam Page, but we aren't sure if they are game screenshots or promotional images. But this is the internet, it's supposed to be full of speculation and half-baked theories and connection. We have a moral responsibility to BE that speculation and theories.

According to the end card, SpongeBob SquarePants: Battle for Bikini Bottom - Rehydrated is being published by THQ Nordic, developed by Purple Lamp Studios, and being released on PC, PS4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch.

Having THQ Nordic as the publisher tracks. A while back, the publisher purchased the rights to all of the old Nickelodeon video games. We were expecting a Rocket Power game or something, but Spongebob was also on our list of interests.

Purple Lamp Studios, on the other hand, is interesting. The studio has only produced one other game: The Guild 3, the early access medieval RPG. This struck us as odd because not only is their only other game hasn't actually left early access, but because reviews for the title have been mixed at best. This causes a certain level of concern that they're not actually putting a good studio behind the remake. On the other hand, it's a remake, so as long as they stay true to the original, it should be ok. ... Right?

This is a clever move by THQ Nordic. Battle for Bikini Bottom is arguably the most popular TV show video game there was. It will feed perfectly on the nostalgia of young adults, while still appealing to modern kids. We can't wait to see if they do the game justice.
