A more lethal Pokemon GO, in a way.

Monster hunting isn't easy, but someone has to do it. And here soon, that's going to be you. Introducing The Witcher: Monster Hunter, a mobile ARG game.

The game was revealed by a recently published teaser trailer. In it, we see a man walking with his dog in a dense forest. His dog stops to bark at seemingly nothing. When the man points his phone at the space, a large monster appears on screen.

Little else is known about the upcoming app at this time. So we're left with a number of assumptions. Like the king of ARGs, Pokemon GO, we can assume that the player will travel around the real world, using GPS tracking to find monsters around the local area. We don't think that players will be tasked with collecting these monsters and using them to battle each other, though.

Ideally, we'd like to see something like a combination of Pokemon GO and Bethesda's mobile game, Elder Scrolls Blades. The player can find monsters around the real world and use a touch screen combat interface to defeat them. Maybe they can even use the resources and money collected to improve their weapons and armor.

We're a little surprised to see this be announced now. The Witcher has grown rather popular after the release of the live-action TV show on Netflix, but the ARG mobile game idea is beyond its trendy years. This doesn't even mention the oversaturation of everyone wanting to make their own ARG game, including Five Nights at Freddy's. Producing a new one now, years after the trend died down, seems like a risky move.

Of course, all of this is speculation and hope. More information about the game and how it plays will release in due time.
