The Vatican Minecraft Server Blew Up

It's really popular -- and only god knows why.

Here’s a story I didn’t expect would require a follow-up, but apparently, the Vatican Minecraft server has kind of blown up?

So, a quick recap: you might recall that earlier this week, tech dude for Jesus Father Robert Ballecer announced that he had managed to set up a Minecraft server at the Vatican, which was supposed to be a very relaxing, chill place for people to just be nice to one another. Despite being a blogger and someone you could call a Twitter personality, he seemed to forget that he was making this announcement on the internet, and people on the internet are jerks, so people immediately DDoS’d the server.

This is what he told the world:

I'm looking at the logs of the Minecraft test server and it looks like there is a handful of people who are constantly connecting and disconnecting to fill the player slots and kill the server. Interesting...

We're working on it... I didn't expect the story to go out this early. This is still a test server that was just for setting up policy

He continued along that vein, and also explained that DDoS attacks weren’t the only problem - either out of curiosity, the opportunity to troll, or a genuine desire to play on the aforementioned sever, a lot of people were trying to connect to the server, which overloaded it pretty quickly. So he’s in the process of getting all that sorted out. And hopefully he does, because memes and jokes aside, it's a good idea to create a little safe space for people who just want to chill without having to worry about the often toxic environment games produce. I think that's an admirable goal.

That said, I can’t imagine this story will require a follow-up but I didn’t think it would be taken this far either, so, I guess I’ll be keeping an eye on this? Just in case.
