There are fewer gaming experiences more classic than co-operative Halo. And now, that experience has become much more possible in the modern day as cross-platform co-op releases for the Halo 3/ODST sections of the Master Chief Collection.

The folks at 343 Industries have been pretty busy lately. Between Halo: Infinite breaching into the open-world genre and the recent trials and tribulations of their free to play Multiplayer, its a wonder they have time for anything else. And when you consider the fact that The Master Chief Collection is about 8 years old at this point, were amazed to hear that theyre still working on improving it.

According to the most recent patch notes on the Halo Support website, the developers have added experimentalcross-platform co-op for Halo 3 and Halo 3: ODST. This means that players on both Xbox and PC can cooperatively play these titles online. While they state that they tested the feature internally, theyre looking for additional insight from real players with different networking setups. This is followed by a polite request to submit a report if anyone experiences issues.

Like we expressed before, its a surprise to see a prominent feature like this be added in now of all times. But after some thought, it makes sense. Xbox has been putting a lot of focus on how their Game Pass subscription system can also be for PC gaming. The Master Chief Collection is on Game Pass for both console and PC, so adding in a feature like is very befitting of the Game Pass ecosystem. At least this is what we speculate was their motivation. Perhaps they always wanted the feature, but only now could they get it functional. Working with older software can be an extremely difficult task, after all.

The update also includes some changes to the Firefight and Floodfight gameplay modes, along with some improvements to the custom game browser. But it doesnt include anything too interesting.
