The Intellivision Amico is Delayed Again, Date Unknown

Their goal is "by the end of the year."

Youve been waiting over 40 years, might as wait a few more, right? The Intellivision Amico launch has been delayed yet again due to supply issues.

Remember that awkward game console, the Intellivision, from the 1980s? It had a knob controller with a 1-9 button set up on the front. While not as big of a hit as the NES or other early home console options, it was a big deal at the time. And there it stayed, until 2018, when the company announced that they would be spiritually reviving the console with the Amico, a home family game console that draws on many similar themes.

The Intellivision Amico draws inspiration from its forefather, using a knob and button controller scheme. But this time, the buttons are replaced with digital touch screens. The idea is that each game you play would have unique controls, which are displayed on the screen. Or it would, if the console would release already.

Originally announced back in 2018, this will be the third time the consoles release is delayed. Announced on Twitter, they cite supply issues. This follows pandemic-related problems being the previous delay reasons.

We want to apologize as we are forced to push our desired launch date yet again. In spite of these supply hurdles hampering our ability to fill all orders, we are focused and determined to deliver pre-ordered units by the end of the year. This will also allow us more time to optimize our operating system for future game development.

While an official date was not given, our new window for release is by the end of the year. Or thats their goal, at least. At this point, were somewhat expecting the console to not make it onto shelves before New Years.
