The Game Awards, as I stated earlier, were last night, and a lot of stuff went down. Trailers were revealed, tears were shed, and people came together to celebrate what good they could gleam from an otherwise crappy year. While too much happened to really go into all the details, here are a few highlights:
  • The Game of the Year, which was contested between Doom, Uncharted 4, Overwatch, Inside, and Titanfall 2, went to the predictable winners, Overwatch. But the only thing Blizzard likes more than other people praising it is when it praises itself, so Ray Gresko added:

“While we’ve been very happy with how the game has been received, we’re also extremely proud that this game and the world that we’re building has a message and it’s a message about heroism. It’s a message about diversity. It’s a message about a bright and positive and hopeful future. And these are all things that we really believe everyone needs a little bit of right now.”

  • Death Stranding got a new teaser trailer, which you can check out here.
  • We got some very exciting new looks at the game that was voted “most highly anticipated”, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. Specifically, two new trailers were shown off. One, which shows towns destroyed, monster attacks, and a mysterious lady who is dressed astonishingly similar to Link himself.

…and a second trailer, which is more gameplay-focused, where link is exploring a difficult dungeon and befriending bird-bards.

  • And of course, Hideo Kojima finally got his well-deserved award for last year’s show, where Konami denied him a chance to attend and get recognized for his hard work on Metal Gear Solid 5. IT was a rather emotional moment, which so happens to have been caught on camera for us to enjoy.

All-in-all, it was a pretty fantastic experience, and worth watching. Hopefully, next year’s will be every bit as good.
