They're a bit behind in the game, but they have the right idea. The Epic Games Store has started offering mod support for their games.

Well, game, singular, so far. Piranha Games' MechWarrior 5 is the first game on the storefront to offer the feature, acting as a guinea pig for the beta version of mod support.

We first heard about the EGS getting mod support back in March 2019. According to the Epic roadmap, more games will gain mod support and additional features will be introduced at some point in the future. Details about these are not available at this time.

This makes it one of the last major game distributors to offer mod support, only beating out Nintendo. Even Xbox One and Playstation 4 offer modding for their games, albeit to a limited degree.

All things considered, this is a good step forward. A common complaint about the Epic Games Store when it had released was the lack of features and functionality.
