Tune your lutes and lace up your boots. Neverwinter, the Dungeons & Dragons based MMO game, is getting an official Bard character class.

Announced during the IGN Expo on Friday, Bards will be the focus of the next update for the free to play MMO RPG based on the Dungeons and Dragon Universe. This will add a new playable character class that combines physical combat with a variety of music-based support magic.

With a lute in hand, the Bard will have a list of spells to pull from. According to developers Cryptic Studios, it will have one of the largest selection of spells to choose from. Once they reach level 30, they can select one of two subclass roles: Songblades or Minstrels.

Songblades are charismatic pirate-types that use their allure to deal serious damage at close range swordplay. Their magic generally augments their offensive skills and supports their close-combat style.

Minstrels take a different approach, opting for ranged, music-based actions. They can support their allies with a song, cast confusing illusions, or unleash physic damage from afar.

While an official release date was not announced, they assure us that the Bard class will be available soon. Stay tuned.
