Tetris, the famous falling block puzzle arcade game, took everyone by surprise with their latest iteration. Introducing Tetris 99, the Battle Royale Tetris game.
No, this isn't a new satire piece by Clickhole. It's real. In the most recent Nintendo Direct, the game company announced a new free-to-play battle royale game, but Tetris.
As the name implies, Tetris 99 has 99 different players all playing at the same time, competing to eliminate each other and surviving as the last player standing. Much like classic multiplayer Tetris, large line breaks and combos will send additional rows at the other players. Users can target other players manually to send their "attacks" to, or use a provided automation system to choose for them.
Tetris 99 is free to download and play right now on Nintendo Switch. A Nintendo Switch Online subscription will be required, however, since it's an online only game.
Stay tuned for our official review of the game. I've had some time to play it already and boy do I have opinions. Fever-dreamish, Lovecraftian opinions.
If you want to hear more about the other, less ridiculous titles announced in the Direct, check out or break down of it here.
