SuperHyperCube Cancels Support for Oculus Rift

The root cause? Politics.

When it comes to video game journalism, I personally try to stay as far away from politics as possible. But one peculiar piece of news has been flooding the internet, inciting plenty of varied reactions from the masses.

Just yesterday, it was reported that the Oculus Rift's founder, Palmer Luckey, was secretly paying a pro-Trump organization to publish Internet memes attacking Hillary Clinton. As expected, this has caused a little bit of a backlash for Luckey. How? Well, some developers have protested against Luckey's actions, including the developer Polytron, who recently canceled Oculus support for their upcoming VR indie title, SUPERHYPERCUBE. According to the recent Pastebin message:

"You may have seen the news yesterday that ties Oculus Founder Palmer Luckey to Nimble America, a Trump-endorsing organization Luckey started to defame Clinton via 'the power of Internet memes'.

In a political climate as fragile and horrifying as this one, we cannot tacitly endorse these actions by supporting Luckey or his platform.

In light of this, we will not be pursuing Oculus support for our upcoming VR release, SUPERHYPERCUBE.

If you are a voting citizen of the United States, please remember to register and make your voice heard this November 8th. Do not let bigotry, white supremacy, hate and fear win.

Kokoromi & Polytron"

So far, the reactions have been immense on Twitter. At the very least, this has proven to be a beneficial PR strategy, as Polytron's game has gained an exponential amount of exposure since. A couple of replies to the message have even gone so far as to state:

"Good. Thank you for your syance. You've just won a sale on PSVR."

"Day 1 for y'all, well played, kudos on having the backbone to make statements like this."

Again, while I won't delve into politics, I wonder if this event will snowball?
