CCP Newcastle, the developers of Eve: Valkyrie has been acquired by major U.K. developer, Sumo Digital.

CCP Newcastle announced that they and their 34 person team will be joining Sumo Digital's team of studios in Sheffield and Nottingham, U.K, and Pune, India. They will be now known as Sumo Digital Newcastle, and be led by CCP Newcastle studio head and executive producer of Eve: Valkyrie, Owen OBrien.

Sumo Digital hasn't announced any plans for the Newcastle division, only the vague statement that their acquisition extends Sumos capacity and breadth of experience. With a history of games like LittleBigPlanet 3, Snake Pass, and Crackdown 3, whatever project they have in mind for Newcastle is sure to be a potent one.

We knew about CCP Games' closing and consolidation back when they announced it in October. This was due to a decreased investment in Eve: Valkyrie. Odds are development towards the VR space fighting game is going to cease permanently, though it received a strong series of updates during its life time.
