There are few things more vast and unknown than the ocean, especially when its on a planet comprising almost entirely of that ocean. And though it seems like weve seen it all, fear not. There is still more to explore. The developers of Subnautica have low-key revealed that development on a new game in the series is under development, and theyre looking for a narrative designer to work on it.

To be more specific, developers Unknown Worlds recently posted online, calling out for applications to be a Senior Narrative Designer to work on the next Subnautica game.

We're seeking a Senior Narrative Designer to work with us to help shape the next game in the Subnautica universe! 🖊🌌

Come and join our fully remote studio and let's make great games together. Check out the full job description here 🔽

The post then links to a listing on the company website.

This is essentially the first reveal that the studio is working on more games in the Subnautica line. Subnautica was an absolute smash hit. And while it wasnt as big of a success, the follow-up game, Subnautica: Below Zero, performed quite well on the market. While it makes sense for them to continue, a lack of official confirmation made it hard to say.

The uncertainty was further reinforced when Unknown Worlds announced that theyre working on another, unrelated game. Codenamed Project M, it was described as a wholly unique turn-based strategy game set in a sci-fi world. And that could be just about anything.

And though we now know that theyre working on something. Itll still be a rather long time before we see anything for ourselves. The listing described the job as a chance to join very early in development. So it could be anywhere between 2 to 10 years before we actually see the games release, depending on their expected scope.

Either way, the studio has proven that they know what theyre doing and that they can do it well. If they take their time and stay true to their own vision, then were confident that whatever they produce will be a blast to play. So we can be patient.
