Studio Behind Resident Evil Movie Now Working on Monster Hunter Film

It's going to be, uh, quite the show.

One of the weirder chapters of the Resident Evil series has always been the live-action movies, produced and released by a studio called Constantin Film. While it started as a slightly-adapted retelling of the first game (with a brand-new character, Alice, acting as the lead), the movies that followed created a brand-new universe and mythology around the iconic characters, organizations, and zombies that make up the Resident Evil world. It’s really taken a life of its own, and like it or hate it you can’t deny that it’s successful. In fact, it was one of those game movies that might never have been good enough to warrant notice but it was never bad enough to shame.

Well, now that very same studio has started filming a new movie off a new series, they’re going to be making a Monster Hunter movie.

The same folks behind the Resident Evil films will be coming back for this one, with Paul W.S. Anderson directing, Jeremy Bold producing, and Milica Bogdanovna Jovovich, the lady who played Alice in the Resident Evil movies (and also the director’s wife) in the lead role as… a monster hunter, probably. Filming will take place in Cape Town, South Africa, so that should prove a pretty nice location for some monster-slaying action.

Oh, and of course, they hope to turn it into a series in the same vein as the Resident Evil films. So regardless of how well this one goes, you can safely assume a second will come soon after.

Personally, I’m not sure how they plan to turn this particular series into a movie, but then again they did a pretty good job with Resident Evil, making the wise decision to use it more as a source of inspiration and names rather than a pre-written script. I’m sure they’ll do the same with this, and I kind of look forward to seeing how it turns out.

Better now than ever before, now that Monster Hunter: World has finally made the series mainstream.
