It seems that were not quite through with some of the market issues of the past couple of years. Between part shortages and COVID complications, Valve has announced that the launch of the Steam Deck Docking Station has been delayed.

The announcement comes from the event section of the Steam Deck Events page on their website. While they reveal the delay, they dont provide much extra information, like when to expect them.

Hi all. Due to parts shortages and COVID closures at our manufacturing facilities, the official Steam Deck Docking Station is delayed. We're working on improving the situation and will share more info when we have it. This has no effect on production schedule and reservation windows for Steam Decks (different parts, different factories).

In the meantime the team is continuing to work on improving the docked experience for Steam Deck with all USB-C hubs and external displays.

In many ways, the Steam Deck is seen as the PC rival equivalent to the Nintendo Switch. Its a handheld gaming system with controls on both sides and a screen in the center. The only thing the Switch has over it (aside from the exclusives), is the ability to connect to a docking station and play the games on a connected TV. This accessory item would give the Steam Deck the same potential, making it a highly desired item among interested gamers.

Lets just hope it doesnt cost as much as a new Switch dock does. New, from Nintendo, they cost a solid $60, which is pretty steep for what seems like some pretty simple technology. Granted, the Steam Deck itself is surprisingly affordable for what it's capable of, so theres some greater faith that itll be reasonable.

Well find out for sure when the docking station does launch at some point in the future. Just don't expect to play Fortnite on it.
