Stardew Valley Creator Making Two New Games, but Please be Chill About It

He's asking you to lower your expectations.

It’s not easy to be a famous indie developer – you’d think it would be great being known and loved for your games, but folks like Toby Fox have shown that the expectations fans put on you can be absolutely crushing, and the work you have to put in as a solo developer is nothing to sneeze at. Another good example of this is the famous Eric "ConcernedApe" Barone, the creator of the mega-hit Stardew Valley, who announced earlier this week that he’s currently working on two new games over on Twitter:

…I'm actually working on a couple of new projects. One takes place in the world of Stardew Valley, but is not a farming game. The other, I'm not 100% sure about the world yet, but it will tie into Stardew Valley in some way.

As you might expect, the internet blew up in response to this news. People really, really like Stardew Valley, as the enormous sales it’s enjoyed would probably indicate, and people have been pounding the castle gates demanding more information and details about these unknown, ill-defined titles.

Today, Eric took back to Twitter to try to calm his rabid fan-base a spell.

I'm not setting out to make the next indie smash hit, I just want to make another game that I enjoy and am happy with. And to share some of my art & ideas with the world. If it becomes popular, I will be happy, but it's not my focus

This was followed by a bunch of people who then missed the point by urging him to stay true to his vision, assured it will be amazing. Because fanboys and girls gonna fanboy and girl.

Either way, it’ll probably be a long, long time before we see these two projects come to light, so better take good care of your farms in the meantime.
