A major update is coming to Nintendo's freshest IP, Splatoon 2. This Thursday (November 23), Splatoon 2 will gain new stages, new gear, new styles, new levels, and even a new game mode. Best of all, it's free.

There will be a total of 5 new stages included in this update. This consists of 4 battle stages (MakoMart, Shellendorf Institute, Walleye Warehouse, and Arowana Mall) and 1 Salmon Run stage (Salmonid Smokeyard). MakoMart is a brand new stage that will be added to the rotation the following day (November 24) while the other 3 will be added "soon." Shellendorf Institute is another brand new stage, while Walleye Warehouse and Arowana Mall are stages from the first Splatoon game. Salmonid Smokeyard is a beach themed stage for Salmon Run that utilizes 2 fan lifts.

What better to check out a fresh new stage than with a fresh new look? This update also includes over 140 new pieces of gear to customize your inkling with the best styles. Some of this gear is returning classics from the first Splatoon. If new threads aren't enough, 4 more hair (tentacle?) styles will also be available to choose from.

The level cap will be increased from 50 to 99. A new option will be added to "prestige" once you reach max level, resetting yourself to 1 while gaining a star on your display.

The biggest change will be the new game mode, Clam Blitz. This mode will function like a combination of capture the flag and an easter egg hunt. Players are to collect clams splayed around the map and deposit them into the basket near the other team's base. The first to score 100 points is the winner. This mode will be implemented around mid-December.

These changes begin November 23 and continue through December. Just remember, Don't get cooked, stay off the hook.
