Splash Damage is Making a Stadia Exclusive

It probably won't make much of a splash.

Google Stadia, Google’s streaming platform, has been struggling to perform as of late, thanks to a general lack of exciting games and the fact they’re not making it easy for developers to want to offer their games to the system, given the lack of incentives on Google’s part. This hasn’t deterred every studio, however, and either because of some astonishing backdoor deals or a general lack of foresight, Splash Damage, the people behind Gears Tactics, Dirty Bomb, Brink, and the multiplayer modes of a number of other games (such as Castle Wolfenstein, Doom 3, Gears of War 4, and more) have announced that they’re going to be making a game exclusively for the Stadia.

…and that’s pretty much all they shared, outside hinting that it wouldn’t stray far from their multiplayer FPS roots. CEO Richard Jolly had this to say on the matter:

"Our games have always been about bringing people together, and that’s what we really care about as a studio. We started this by pushing team-play in shooters, so when choosing our next projects, whether it’s working on certain franchises or platforms, we always go back to that goal, ‘How do these projects or platforms help us ignite friendships? With Stadia it made perfect sense immediately—the platform is removing friction and allowing people to connect and play with each other instantly… We think we’re building something that’s fun, unique and takes advantage of Stadia’s best features. It’s something a little different from us, but it still has all the hallmarks of what makes a Splash Damage game great!"

Stadia could use more exclusives, or really just any new games at all, but if the slow degradation of Nvidia’s GeForce streaming platform is anything to go by, that’s easier said than done. I doubt Splash Damage has the pull it takes to create a blockbuster hit that will make the Stadia a thing, but who knows? I’ve been wrong before.
