Spiritfarer, the wholesome adventure game, tugged away at our hearts when it released last year. But they arent done yet. The 2021 development roadmap has been released, detailing future updates and four new spirits to fare.

When the game was revealed at E3 2019, it posed itself as an emotional management game of sorts. You played as Stella, the new spirit farer, who was responsible for guiding the now-deceased spirits into the afterlife comfortably. To do this, the player must manage various accommodations for them on their ship. Some spirits ask for silk, others ask for an orchard, things like that.

Developer ThunderLotus has now revealed their 2021 dev roadmap for the game, going into short detail about three major updates, each containing various improvements, features, and a new spirit to guide. Each update is expected to release at various parts of 2021

The Lily Update

The first update will launch some time in Spring 2021. It will improve the existing co-op functionality, adding new UI elements and introducing co-op fishing. It will also expand more on Stellas story through the next spirit: Lilly!

When you meet Lily, she will be in the form of a collection of butterflies. Youll then discover that shes the spirit of Stellas younger sister. Youll learn more about both Lily and Stella as you help guide her on.

As Stella is getting more familiar with the job of Spiritfaring, she starts to uncover some of her memories, which are starting to blossom as wondrous flowers over her cabin. These flowers house butterflies that roost to form our new spirit friend : Lily, Stellas younger sister.

The Beverly Update

Next up, set for release in the Summer, will be the Beverly Update. This will introduce a new collectable system called Acetate Sheets, which are examined in a new building structure called the Archive Room. It will also introduce the next new spirit: Beverly!

Beverly, whose spirit had been residing in Oxbury, just so happens to be Stellas old neighbor. Her time on the island has been lonely, so she joins Stella on her ship for some reminiscing.

The Jackie & Daria Update

The final update of the year is the most impressive looking one yet. Not only does it introduce an entire new island, it brings new ship buildings, events, and TWO new spirits with it. Introducing Jackie and Daria.

On this new island is a run down hospital. Should Stella explore it, theyll meet Jackie, whose spirit is presented as a large hyena (maybe a jackal?) and Daria, a bat. Jackie is a caretaker, with Daria being his main patient. Jackie has been feeling overworked, giving Stella a chance to lend a hand.

All three of these updates, when complete, will be released for free on PC and console. More details about each will be released closer to their expected launch window.

This is a wonderful surprise. Spiritfarer was a wholesome and enjoyable game that we honestly expected to launch and be left be. Were glad it was received well enough to make a year of updates viable for the development team and we look forward to playing them for ourselves.
