Good news comes to TurntSnaco420, xXUberKillaXx, and others with proportionately dumb PlayStation Network names. Sony has launched its new online ID change feature for PSN.

Originally revealed late last year, this feature would allow anyone with a PSN ID to change their username. Sid Shuman, the social media director for PlayStation posted this news on the PlayStation Blog, announcing the feature's launch and answering a number of questions about it. Players will be able to change their ID via their PS4 or on a web browser.

How to Change My PSN ID on the PlayStation 4
  • Step 1: From your PS4 go to [Settings].
  • Step 2: Select [Account Management] > [Account Information] > [Profile] > [Online ID].
  • Step 3: Enter an Online ID of your choice or choose from one of the suggestions.
  • Step 4: Follow the on-screen prompts to complete the change.
Everyone gets one (1) free name change. But after that, it will cost you. Each additional change will cost $10. Unless you are a PlayStation Plus member, in which case the price is cut in half to be $5. Reverting back to an old ID is free, at least.

But it's not a flawless transition, it seems. Shuman explains that certain newer games may experience some issues with the changes, while most older games definitely will.

"As a result of the preview program, we[ve found an instance where a game did not fully support the feature, even though it was originally published after April 1, 2018, contrary to what we mentioned in our original announcement. All PS4 games originally published on or after April 1, 2018 have been developed to support the online ID change feature. However, since they have not all been specifically tested with the feature, we cannot guarantee that they will support it."

To help players identify problem games and potential avoid issues, they recommend checking their official list of games. For more information, check out the FAQ listed at the bottom of the announcement.
