Sony CEO Claims Avoiding Cross Play is "the Best Experience for Our Users"

Also it's good competition.

Sony has been brewing bad blood lately as they continue to avoid and ignore cross-play functionality for their console, the PlayStation 4. Now the CEO has stepped out to explain why, because it's not the best way to play.

According to a discussion at the IFA technology show in Berlin, Sony boss Kenichiro Yoshida, they're intentionally leaving out crossplay because they believe that playing these games on the PlayStation is the superior way to play.

"On cross-platform, our way of thinking is always that PlayStation is the best place to play. Fortnite, I believe, partnered with PlayStation 4 is the best experience for users, that's our belief. But actually, we already opened some games as cross-platform with PC and some others, so we decide based on what is the best user experience. That is our way of thinking for cross-platform."

Yoshida then explains that by keeping separated, they'll promote competition in the industry. Another idea they consider good.

"I think competition is always good. Healthy, fair competition is always good for the industry and growth. I think competition with Nintendo and Xbox is a healthy situation."

So, in short, Sony is intentionally ignoring cross-play support because they think that the other ways to play a game are inferior. They also choose what they consider good for the gaming community. But also it's good for competition.

Pay no mind to people angry at Sony for locking their Fortnite accounts. Don't think about how Fallout 76 for PlayStation will be isolated, while PC and Xbox play together. Forget about how Elder Scrolls: Blades will not be made for the PS4 because of their lack of cross support. Focus on how they know what's best and this is good for competition.

I think I'll be saving my PS4 for console exclusives only for now.
