Someone Hacked 1.5k Roblox Accounts to Campaign for Trump's Reelection

2020, on top of being a slow-motion train wreck, is also an election year, which means that Donald Trump and Joe Biden are out in force trying to campaign for people to vote for them, or at least get a foreign nation to intervene and ensure they get the highest office in the land. I’ll let you figure out which one of the two is currently being accused of that.

Anyway, it shouldn’t be surprising that the divisions caused by the election should bleed over into the world of video games, although this particular instance of patriotic parlance is certainly one of the more curious cases.

As reported by BeepingComputers, roughly 1,500 Roblox accounts were recently hacked. Rather than stealing any personal information or taking a bunch of fake Roblox money (is that a thing? I assume that’s a thing), the hackers instead changed the user’s profiles to read “Ask your parents to vote for Trump this year! #MAGA2020”, and updated their avatars to be wearing a “Running of the Bulls” cap (which looks a lot like Trumps iconic MAGA hats) and an American eagle T-shirt. Additionally, some people have reported that pro-Trump messages are being sent from their account to other users on their friends lists.

That’s… certainly one tactic. The good news is that it’s really easy to fix, since the hacker didn’t seem to update user account information – all you have to do is log back in and change your clothes/profile back to what they were. Additionally, it’ll be pretty easy to secure their accounts again – all they need to do is update their password and enable two-factor authentication, and they’ll be good to go.

As for who is responsible for this hack – well, it’s probably not the official Trump campaign. But beyond that, it’s anyone’s guess. They must really have a lot of time on their hands though.
