SOMA gets the Safe Mode in PS4 Version

Basically makes it a walking simulator.

It’s not often that people think a game should be more like a walking simulator, and yet that’s exactly what happened to survival horror game SOMA, the cyberpunk-infused nightmare from Frictional Games, the masterminds behind Amnesia: Dark Descent.

Without spoiling too much, in SOMA, you wake up in a strange mechanical world and you have to navigate a twisted underwater facility full of haunted, murderous robots and tricky moral dilemmas. The thing is, whereas Amnesia: Dark Descent was made dramatically more haunting and terrifying thanks to the twisted abomination stalking your every move, in SOMA, the assorted mechanical beasts that prowled on your heels were more often-than-not annoying or worse - completely unnecessary. Counter-intuitively, fans were saying that the game was a lot more scary without them, and mods were quickly produced to remove the dangerous threats from the game. Soon, Frictional Games got the hint, and they officially released a Safe Mode, where players could go through the horrific game and the mind-bending story without having to worry about hiding from “unearthly abomination #11” for the ninth time in a row.

All of that lead up for a relatively simple announcement: the once Xbox and PC exclusive safe mode has just been released for the PS4 version of the game as well, so now people playing on the big black box can experience a walking simulator unlike any you’ve experienced before.

The mode is free, so all you need to do is download the update.
