Virtual reality appears to be sweeping the video game industry, even though the headsets have not been released for the mainstream consumer. We have also seen plenty of games being developed for VR of different genres, even Tower Defense.

Well, Vertigo Games has leaped into the VR fray by announcing Skyworld, a proclaimed groundbreaking turn-based strategy game for Steam virtual reality. Presented at GDC 2015, Skyworld aims to bring back the classic turn-based battle system onto the HTC Vive later this year.

The game utilizes Vive's revolutionary Full Room Scale 360 Degree Solution with Tracked Controllers, meaning you will be standing and exploring your battle map, strategizing and dominating the battle from all angles. Of course, there will be a seated VR option as well.

To detail a bit more of the gameplay, players must manage their economy, build and lead armies, and master dragons to restore their father's empire, all with a scepter, infused with the most powerful magic in the world, and a spellbook.

Chet Faliszek, of Valve, states:

Steam has always been a platform for empowering developers and we plan to continue that direction with Steam VR. Vertigo Games is making an amazing VR game with Skyworld and has been a tremendous partner in helping us understand how we can best support the Dev community.

And what does Vertigo Games developer Richard Stitselaar have to say?

Developing Skyworld in such close cooperation with Valve's Steam VR team has simply been amazing. We are thankful for the support and trust they have shown our studio over the past couple of months, and believe this has given us a crucial edge to develop the best experience possible for this amazing VR technology.
