Its been nearly a decade since Skyrim released to the public. And in those years, its become one of the most popular RPGs of all time. And now theyre reliving one of the most popular jokes about the game: theyre releasing it again. Introducing Skyrim: Anniversary Edition.

No, were not kidding. Bethesda Softworks has announced yet another edition of Skyrim. Revealed during QuakeCon, Anniversary Edition will be a modernized version of the game that takes advantage of current hardware, while also adding in some new features.

Firstly, Anniversary Edition will be optimized for modern consoles (the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series S/X). While details were not provided, this presumably means higher quality graphics and other improvements in fidelity. It looks like 60 fps, for what thats worth.

The more interesting changes are the features, however. Bethesda states that this edition will feature over 500 Creation Club elements. For those unfamiliar, Creation Club is Skyrim/Fallouts developer curated list of approved mods. This is one of the few ways that people were able to add mod-like content onto their console games. This kind of content would range from alternate skins to special items and mechanics. One mechanic they mentioned includes a new fishing system, but not much more is known beyond that.

Heres the complicated part: monetization. For people who do not own Skyrim, it will be a standard, full priced game. For people that already own Skyrim Special Edition (the re-release back when Xbox One and PS4 were new), they can upgrade to Anniversary edition. Details as to how much that will cost remains unknown. There will be a free update for Special Edition players as well, however, that provides the current-gen upgrade mentioned above.

Skyrim: Anniversary Edition will release on November 11, 2021, exactly 10 years after the launch of the original game.

They made no mention of this, but our speculation leads us to think that Skyrim: Anniversary Edition will be available on Xbox Game Pass when it releases. All of the other Bethesda games are on there, after all.
