Silent Hill Creator Keiichiro Toyama Teases Next Project

It sounds like it'll have a "Death Game" style.

The creator of Silent Hill is dipping back into the horror genre. At least thats what a new teaser by his studio is implying. But all we have to go on is a few hints and some rather creepy concept art.

Keiichiro Toyama (the creator and director of Silent Hill) recently published a developer video, sharing plans and information regarding his recently founded dev team, Bokeh Game Studio. This is the first were seeing of the studio since Toyama left SCE Japan Studio in late 2020.

The video shares a first look at a currently unnamed project with some sketches and concepts. Toyama explains that they want to produce a game that make us challenge the fact that we're living peacefully. He also wants to expand beyond just fear, using root concepts of the horror genre while still letting the player feel exhilarated when playing.

To help achieve that goal, Toyama is drawing on the Death Game subgenre. This usually involved protagonists being forced to participate in a series of tasks, games, or challenges, with death often being the reward for failure.

These works tend to add entertainment to somewhat brutal worlds. You have these regular people driven into irrational situations. They're on the edge emotionally, while dealing with action or drama. This influenced me and I think it will show in my next game.

That said, the game wont be short of wretched and unnerving creatures. Toyama shared a few concept art shots and sketches, showing strange, monstrous forms made from human flesh. The header image is one of our favorite examples of what we saw.

Theres still a great deal we dont know about this game. While we have an idea toward the general plot and some of the creatures we might see, the name, style, price, release range, and all that remain a mystery. We look forward to learning more.
