Things have been quiet on the front of the hit indie platformer, Shovel Knight, and according to a recent developer update, it'll be quiet for a little longer still. Both the King of Cards and Showdown updates have been delayed.

Developers Yacht Club Games posted a formal announcement on the official website, detailing the near future for Shovel Knight. It began with a reassurance that development hasn't stopped and they've remained hard at work.

They continue to explain the premise behind the levels in the upcoming King of Cards DLC. They state that the levels are "the dessert, and the appetizer" of the game. The DLC levels are said to be shorter than the average Shovel Knight course, but they will be more numerous compared to normal (more than 30).

After that, they expand on the versus multiplayer mode, Showdown.

"Multiple players battling it out, as all their favorite characters, on so many stages, with countless combinations and surprises in the mix! Once characters, stages, and modes landed in a good place we really had our work cut out for the next step of fully realizing it all. Not just this many stages and that many characters, but AI playing on all these stages as (and against) all these characters, in all of these configurations, and featured in their own Story Mode! We approached all this wacky fun very seriously and now it is nearly complete!"

In order to ensure quality for these levels and game, particularly on more limited consoles like the Nintendo 3DS, Yacht Club is dedicating extra effort toward refining every step of the way. This only adds to the delayed time, however.

Shovel Knight's King of Cards and Showdown DLC will be available at an undetermined date in the future. The full game, including all past and future DLC, will are available as part of the Treasure Trove edition.
