Hand us our shovel, were going in! Shovel Knight is making a limited time showcase in For Honor, the popular medieval battle game.

Announced in a video on the official Ubisoft YouTube account, various outfits, emotes, and executions based on the hit indie game Shovel Knight will be available in For Honor, but only for a limited time.

Shovel Knight, for those unfamiliar, is one of the most popular indie titles of last generation. Developed by Yacht Club Games, its a retro style side scrolling platformer. The player controls Shovel Knight, a brave hero wielding a shovel as a weapon. It's reminiscent of classic NES era adventure games, while still holding some modern design aspects to keep it fun.

The additions, while exciting, are nothing too extreme. You wont get to swing around your own shovel, nor play as the titular hero himself. Instead, you can wear referential clothing items and animations. Heres a handy list for you:
  • Stalwart Plate Illustrious Outfit for the vikings. Featuring tattoos of the characters, blue armor pieces, and the blue horned helmet.
  • Ornate Plate Illustrious Outfit for the samurai, with painted graphic armor and a gold horned helmet.
  • The Rodent Regalia Illustrious Outfit for the knights, with graphic overlays of the flying rodent enemies from Shovel knight, complete with two flying rats that hover beside the player.
  • Execution with pixelated smoke clouds and flying bags of money that pop out upon death.
  • Various emotes
Now heres the kicker: this content will only be available for the next two weeks (until March 4). After that, its going away, possibly forever.

While we would have loved to wield an actual shovel into combat, we can understand why that might not have worked. Weapons are class specific and each has a particular way of being used. Sure, you could re-skin an existing weapon, but that gives a short end to anyone who doesnt play those specific weapons. Offering the outfits and emotes seems like a good compromise.
