Sea of Thieves Exec Responds to Lack of Content Claims

Reassurance? Or is his promised as empty as the ocean?

With the launch of Rare's pirate game Sea of Thieves, players are left feeling saltier than normal. Many players feel that the game lacks longevity due to the lack of content. Executive Producer Joe Neate has since responded to the criticism.

Players were given a fair idea of what to expect after multiple pre-release beta tests, though many expected this to be simply a taste of what's to come. It turns out that those beta tests revealed a majority of what the game has to offer. While a decent number of cosmetic items are available, they leave little else worth grinding the three similar quest types for.

Neate, when speaking with IGN on the matter, made the following statement:

Sea of Thieves is designed from the ground up to be a game that grows and evolves, and we will release new cosmetic options ongoing as part of that, alongside new mechanics and ways to play. Our focus for launch is on delivering a great initial experience, and as we move beyond launch we will be assessing and reacting to player feedback across all areas of the game. We have worked with our community throughout the development of Sea of Thieves, and that will continue in exactly the same manner beyond launch.

This is many words to say that they didn't have enough time to add in everything they wanted to. I'd certainly believe that Microsoft rushed the release; either that or they're trying to mitigate the negative feedback while the game is new. Whether or not they actually continue to add on to the game will determine which is the truth. All we know so far is there won't be any microtransactions.

Having played Sea of Thieves, I admit that there is a noticeable lack of things to do compared to games held to the same standard. Even so, I'm rather enjoying what currently is available. Especially the seafaring.
