RUMOR: Simon Belmont and Isabelle to Join Smash Bros Ultimate

It’s been made clear by the man up top himself, Masahiro Sakurai, that Super Smash Brothers Ultimate won’t have as many new characters as Smash games in the past, he did say that there would be a small handful of new characters to balance out the roster: both completely new, as well as “echo fighters”, who are basically souped-up palette swaps of some other character. We already know of some new characters – like Daisy, the Inklings, and, of course, Ridley – but other new fighters will probably be announced as the game inches towards release.

That said, there’s one Redditor who claims to know who some of these mysterious, definitively not Waluigi characters will be.

That Reddor is called Vergeben, who would normally be easy to ignore, except he was the one who first leaked that Solid Snake would be in the next Smash game, which might have been a coincidence but it's still worth consideration. And this time, he’s presenting two slightly stranger predictions for Super Smash Brothers Ultimate: Simon Belmont and Isabelle.

Simon Belmont, of course, comes from Castlevania, a Konami series that has a long and storied history on Nintendo consoles. Given that Solid Snake is coming back for Ultimate, another Konami series, it doesn’t seem terribly unlikely that the studio would loan out another one of its more iconic characters to the Big N. It’s not as if they’re doing anything with him.

Isabelle, on the other hand, comes from Animal Crossing, as your dog secretary and star of waaaay too much weird fan art. Vergeben wasn’t sure if she’d be a unique fighter or a mere echo for the Villager fighter, but I frankly have a hard time imagining how she could be her own unique fighter.

With so few new characters to look forward to, I’ll admit I’d be disappointed if Isabelle took up one of the few valuable new character slots, but hey, I’m sure it’ll make someone else’s day.

We’ll just have to see if he’s right this time.
