RUMOR: Reddit User Claims Next C&C Game is Mobile, is Bad

Good to know.

The last time we saw the popular Command & Conquer series in action was way back in 2013 with Command & Conquer: Tiberium Alliance. Ever since then, things have been pretty quiet on the war-front, but that’s not terribly unusual, as the studio behind it is basically dead, and it’s been a while since the RTS has been in style. It also doesn’t help that the series is owned by EA, which as we know is hyper-focused on “games as a service”, and it’s hard to put loot boxes into an RTS while keeping things… you know… fair.

That said, if you’re not too worried about ‘balance’ or ‘fun’, then it’s super easy. And if Reddit user /u/ bingospratley is being honest, then that looks to be EA’s solution for the next-generation C&C title.

Now, typically when we report on rumors we have more than just a random person on Reddit to back up the claim. That said, what he’s saying makes sense, and it fits into what EA has done in the past (lookin’ at you, Dungeon Keeper), so for “I told you so” privileges, we’re going to quickly report on this and see if anything comes of it.

The long and the short of it is that this fellow claims to be a person EA invited in a closed beta to test an upcoming C&C game. But he’s claiming that the title, called “C&C Rivals”, is a mobile game with all the trappings: loot crates, purchasable currency, cooldown periods - everything we come to know and hate from mobile “RTS” titles. No base building, fixed positions, and just watching numbers go up.

Take this with as much salt as you want, but since EA doesn’t currently seem to have plans for the IP but are still greedy jerks, this doesn’t sound too outlandish. But we’ll have to wait and see.
