When you hear a leak or a rumor online, you really have to consider a source. And while there’s lots of speculation online when it comes to where Destiny will be going, if you’re looking for an actual, bonafide leak, you need to look to AnonTheNine, a mysterious figure who leaked countless things to the Destiny community. He leaked new locations and subclasses in Destiny 2’s expansion, predicted the return of the Thunderlord exotic machine gun, and more. So when he says that Destiny 3 is coming – and it’s different – it’s worth listening.

Here’s what he’s saying specifically: that the next Destiny game (which is being worked on now), will move the action to Europa, the moon of Jupiter, and will likely scare off current casual players by embracing a far more ‘hardcore’ style, doubling-down on the RPG and PVP elements that are currently pretty relaxed in Destiny 2. He also mentioned that Guardians in Destiny 3 will have the ability to wield darkness as well as light (that’s the Destiny version of magic, by the way), which might be where hardcore RPG mechanics and the overhauled PvP system come to play.

He also said, if this matters to you, that Chris Barrett will be directing, while Luke Smith will still be present in a big way.

Again, if these were just run-of-the-mill rumors churned out by some random person on the internet, we wouldn’t be here. But the source, combined with the fact that Europa has shown up in Destiny concept art in the past, means that this has some real legs behind it. By all means, take it with salt - after all, if development has just started, then anything could still change – but keep it in mind all the same.

You could look like a goddamn prophet to your friends.
