About a month ago, the mod group known as .white announced the development of a GTA V mod in which they would fully incorporate the Xbox 360 version of the Red Dead Redemption Map. This was an incredibly ambitious title, and .white had announced that they would hopefully have a working test version of the mod sometime this summer. With Red Dead Redemption 2 expected to release sometime this year, the hype around this mod was fairly substantial, and it gathered a lot of attention. This mod was not only going to incorporate the full Red Dead Redemption map but .white explained that they would also be expanding it.

Recently, .white released the first teaser trailer for Red Dead Redemption V, but soon after its publishment, it was taken down. The mod group then came out to announce that their mod is officially canceled. Mr. Leisurewear, the mod's lead programmer, stated that they were contacted and forced to cancel the project. Many fans were looking forward to this mod, and it's definitely sad news. While .white neglected to explain who contacted them, its pretty safe to assume that either Rockstar or Take Two had something to do with it.

I know this is hard pill to swallow, but as you may have noticed we did get contacted , and we sadly have to say we are stopping this project, wrote Mr. Leisurewear

While this is a fan-driven mod, taking the exact map from Red Dead Redemption and implementing it into Grand Theft Auto V is shady at the very least. Since Red Dead Redemption 2 will be coming out this year, it's possible that Rockstar or Take Two wanted to avoid any interest in the game being lost as well as protecting their intellectual property. An ambitious mod like this being canceled is not an uncommon sight, as many big studios don't take kindly to theft, especially when it involves a highly anticipated title. It's highly likely that this is the case, but we can't say for certain since .white has neglected to share any details on the matter.
