PUBG on Other Consoles Will Happen, Eventually

The arguably biggest game of 2017, Playerunknowns Battlegrounds, began as early access on PC, and eventually came to Xbox One (though not without technical issues). PUBG producer and CEO, Chang Han Kim, has recently spoken about the possibility of seeing the battle royale game on other consoles.

As its going to be an exclusive title on Xbox One for some time, wed like to focus on completing the Xbox One PUBG for now. If we have the opportunity, the final goal would be to launch the title on every platform.


The game's release on Xbox One was part of an exclusivity deal with Microsoft, so even if there was a PlayStation 4 version at the ready, it wouldn't be released just yet. The other major issue is that PlayStation doesn't have an early access program, while Steam has Early Access and Xbox has Game Preview. This means that Playerunknowns Battlegrounds has to be "completed" before it can go up on the PlayStation Market. Kim expands on this.

Early Access on Steam and Game Preview on Xbox One are like pre-release, so they dont have a restriction on quality. However, PS is very strict about this. There were cases where a game took six months more to launch even when it was already completed. We are still in the stage of learning the console development environment and console gamers taste. We need to think about other platforms after evaluating and completing the Xbox One version first.


The idea of a PlayStation 4 version of PUBG is indeed a possible reality, though it's not exactly their focus right now. Personally, I'm entertained by the idea of 100 people physically getting together to play PUBG on Nintendo Switch. The smell...
