Last time we talked about PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds stupid popularity, it was because we had reported that the game had finally pushed past 4 million units sold and critics were going crazy for how great the battle royal-style game felt to play. And in the time since that article was published, the game has only gotten even more popular: so much so that it's actually exceeded GTA 5 on the list of most played games on Steam.

Specifically, in terms of peak concurrent players, or players who are playing at the same time. Currently, it's sitting at 382,561, while GTA 5 had 360,761. That makes it the fourth most played game on the list, and quickly catching up with Fallout 4, who sits at number 3 on the list with 471,955 concurrent players.

So yeah. The game is doing really well.

It's also still making headlines. You've probably already heard of the first-person exclusive servers, and Kotaku reported earlier this week that famous streamer and professional douche Dr. Disrespect was banned from the game after killing one of his teammates in a match. The latter case is especially interesting, as it reveals that PlayerUnknown himself is apparently quite the pacifist, and you won't be earning any special favors from him by threatening violence against him.

All this for a game that's still in early access.

You can pick up the game yourself over steam for around thirty bucks if you want to catch the hype train. Otherwise, enjoy not getting killed by naked people wielding pans.
