Platinum Games Wishes More Games Could Go to PC

Alas, it is out of their hands...

When Platinum Games announced on April Fools that Bayonetta would be launching on the PC, no one took them very seriously: after all, we were all too busy watching Rick and Morty Season 3 to pay much mind to such a surprisingly game joke. But there was a reason it was such a grounded campaign: turns out, it was completely true, and you can now snag Bayonetta for your PC.

It might seem like an odd time to make a port, but talking with PC gamer, Platinum Games revealed that it wished it could have done so sooner. In fact, they wish they could port all their games to the PC… if only the publishers would let them.

"The PC market is huge and can definitely not be ignored. We are absolutely aware of that, and we've always felt this way. We've always had a positive stance towards porting our titles to PC, but the decisions as to which platforms we release our games on, and which platforms are the main focus for the games we make are largely made by the publishers, so this is not something we can decide on our own. If it were up to us, we'd port all of our games to PC, but it all depends on the publishers.”

They also went on to suggest that if the PC port of Bayonetta did well, it might encourage publishers to be more bold and allow more of these types of games on PC, which sounds a bit like blackmail, but then anyone who’s a fan of spectacle fighters would snatch this up for their PC anyway, so it’s not much in the way of a threat.

Still, there are a lot of games in Platinum’s library that I think most people would be happy to see come to the PC. Maybe not, like, say, Star Fox Zero, but… what about Nioh? Or MadWorld, that’d be great!
