Super Smash Bros Ultimate has updated to version 2.0.0. Not only does the brawler feature a few new gameplay updates and changes but also introduces the first post-launch fighter: Pirahna Plant.

The overworld enemy of Super Mario lore has made their way onto the battlefield. The plant-based player was offered as a free incentive to anyone that purchased the game before January 31. No longer available, anyone who missed out will have to wait for the future, where Nintendo intends to release the character as paid DLC.

Alongside our botanical brawler is a number of small changes and additions to the game. Ultimate Ver 2.0.0 adds the ability to play Spirit Board with up to four players, adds new spirits, implements some new control options (press both jump buttons to short hop) and tweaks/balances a number of fighters and items.

For the full list of changes, visit the official patch note list. But if you only want the noteworthy stuff, we have a summary here.

  • Play Spirit Board with up to four players.
  • New Spirits
  • We adjusted the calculation for Global Smash Power.
  • Pressing both jump buttons at the same time will now cause you to short hop.
  • Fixed the issue where the KO score included your teammates KOs when Team Attack was On.

Piranha Plant is the first DLC fighter, but they do not count towards the five intended DLC fighters Nintendo will release in Super Smash Bros Ultimate. While we can't tell you who those five fighters will be, we have a good guess as to who they won't be.

Super Smash Bros Ultimate is available now on Nintendo Switch.
