People Online Are Mad That Square Enix Made Tifa's Chest Smaller

A decision instructed by the Square Enix Ethics Department.

Every time a classic game gets a remake, something changes. And oftentimes, that change is met with controversy. Some are more understandable, like the physics hitboxes in the Crash N. Sane Trilogy. This is not one of those times. There has been a hot topic of discussion in regards to Tifa in the Final Fantasy 7 remake. Or more specifically, her boobs.

In the original game, Tifa is the crop-top wearing, large breasted martial artist that joined Cloud throughout the game. Highly anticipated, her appearance in the remake wasn't revealed until the most recent E3, which detailed her HD model and animations. Some of the more eagle-eyed fans noticed that her physical features were not as exaggerated this time around.

Now we know why.

It began when Eurogamer translated a Japanese interview on Famitsu with game director Tetsuya Nomura. In it, he stated that the development team was told to "restrict her chest" by the Square Enix Ethics Department. As a result, Tifa has somewhat smaller (but still above average sized) breasts, with a black sports bra worn under her white tank top.

Of course, with the internet being the even and level minded place it is, everyone is responding in an entirely calm and rational manner. That's a complete lie, as well. A variety of FF7 fans online have taken offense to this change, calling it extreme feminist agenda and dramatic censorship. Others have taken offense to these complaints due to their underlying sexist nature.

This reminds me of when Mortal Kombat stopped having their female fighters like Sonya Blade and Kitara have practically naked character models. And much in the same manner, people online complained about it, calling it censorship or a politically charged action.

Heaven forbid women be portrayed in games in a more reasonable manner.
