Take a deep breath.

Space travel takes a long time, surviving even longer. After years of development, Klei Entertainment's space survival sandbox Oxygen Not Included will officially be leaving early access by the end of the month.

The folks at Klei are best known for their Burton-esque survival game, Don't Starve, but those with a greater taste for sci-fi prefer Oxygen Not Included. In the game, the player must manage a slowly expanding team of space explorers as they cultivate the inhospitable land into something they can survive through.

In an official announcement, Oxygen Not Included will be leaving early access and formally release as version 1.0 on July 30, 2019.

"For us, launch means that the main features of the game are complete and we feel the general public can enjoy the game. Rest assured, we will continue to be working on the game post-launch. After July 30, we will continue with bug fixes and balance changes; we also have more content we want to explore with the game in the future, and we will let people know more about our plans when the time comes."

The formal release will come with its own collection of changes, of course. This includes:
  • New, randomly generated asteroids
  • Three new biomes, plants, and animals
  • New buildings
  • New colony goals
  • Various balance changes to food, temperature, etc.
I started playing Oxygen Not Included about a year ago. It's one of the best survival sandbox/management games I've ever played. Expect a formal written review of Version 1.0 not long after it releases.
