Official Five Nights at Freddy's RPG Announced

Earlier this year, Scott Cawthon, the creator and patron saint of Five Nights at Freddy’s, announced that Five Nights at Freddy’s 4 would officially be the end of the series and he would begin work on a new game. And personally, I felt a mix of excitement and anxiety on his behalf--it was nice to hear he was giving Five Nights up before it wore out its welcome, but frankly his record with non-horror games isn’t great… and moving onto something else entirely might destroy his credibility and leave him depressed again.

Well, over Steam yesterday, Scott finally broke the ice and revealed what his next project would be. And while I don’t want to call it a cop-out or a compromise… yeah, it’s a little of both.
 

The new game that I’m working on will be called FNAF World. It will not be a horror game, but a role playing game where you create a party using the huge selection of characters from the FNaF games, including the classic, withered, phantom, and nightmare versions. I’ve been working steadily on characters and hope to start on enemy models next week.

Still. He continued to point out that this is not Five Nights at Freddy’s 5.

I wanted to keep my plans for a new game secret until Halloween, but while my teasers have created excitement for some people, they have created some confusion as well, mainly because people don’t know if the Five Nights at Freddy’s story is over or not.

It’s very important for me to say again that there will NOT be a Five Nights at Freddy’s 5. The story is complete, and the Halloween update and new game will not add to it.

 
So if the story is complete and there’s nothing more to add, what will this new game be, exactly? I don’t know. Nobody knows, I guess, save for Scott and his testers. What we do know, however, is that it's not his first RPG.

But with luck, it’ll be his first good one.
