Nintendo Reveals Fire Emblem: Three Houses

And frankly I am pumped to heck.

Nintendo pulled up the rear of the E3 adventure yesterday, and while it didn’t show off as many games as Sony or Microsoft, it had some pretty fantastic things to show off. We already talked about the return of Super Smash as Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, but if I were to be honest, I found Super Smash Ultimate to be the second most exciting news to come from Nintendo’s show.

The most exciting? This baby right here: Fire Emblem Three Houses.

A brand-new Fire Emblem game with a new story and characters is coming to Nintendo Switch. The game takes place on Fódlan, where the Church of Seiros exercises great power over the land and its people. This turn-based tactical RPG will put new strategic twists on battling, with formations of troops supporting individual units on the battlefield. Do you have what it takes to survive and conquer in this brand-new Fire Emblem game? Fire Emblem Three Houses is available Spring 2019!

Not only did it have baller music, but it looks to be a Fire Emblem game unlike any we’ve seen before. Not only is it one of the rare examples of a mainstream Fire Emblem game on consoles (given that most of them are mobile titles), but it’s also got some interesting new features like an overworld to walk around in and, even cooler, units that escort your heroes that both make the battle feel bigger, and apparently can even be put into formation to give you a tactical advantage.

Plus, maybe it’s just me, but this seems a bit less goofy than the Fire Emblem games that came before it. I’m sure it’ll have lots of dumb speeches about war and violence and stuff, but even the first trailer for Fates had its fair share of goofiness. This looks… different. And I like different a whole lot.

It’s been a while since I found myself saying “I need a Switch.” Here I am, saying it again.
